What are the benefits?

The SVQ modern apprenticeship programme offers many benefits for both employers and employees – the programme helps employers upskill the team, motivate the team and demonstrate their commitment to staff development.  For the employee, it allows the individual to gain an industry-recognised qualification; it gives the individual encouragement, motivation and confidence. In summary;

How is the programme funded?

There is no financial commitment required from our employers as we utilise funding from Skills Development Scotland for those who are eligible to take part. All we ask is that your business nominate worthy members of your team and allow us to work with them to achieve their qualification and develop their career.  We do not require any minimum numbers.

How is the apprenticeship achieved?

The SVQ qualification is gained onsite in the workplace and does not take any employee away from their daily duties.

Upon successful completion everyone receives an industry recognised SVQ certificate and a Modern Apprenticeship certificate. It is open to all age groups as long as they have not previously completed it and are not in full time education.

This qualification is suitable for those who work in workplace canteens, school kitchens, fast food outlets, and residential care homes.

This qualification is suitable for anyone who prepare and serve mainly pre-prepared or pre-cooked items. It is suitable for a variety of establishments such as hot food takeaway restaurants, mobile food outlets or food outlets.

This qualification is suited to individuals who are currently working in a production catering environment and who wishes to obtain a formal qualification. Find out more

This Qualification is suitable for trainee chefs, commis chefs, chefs de partie who are involved with the preparation and or cooking of meals and snacks.

This qualification is suited to anyone who works within a housekeeping department servicing guest rooms and public areas.

This qualification is suited to anyone who works within a front of house reception role, being the first point of contact for guests and customers.

Who is eligible?

Our SVQ apprenticeship programme is open to all employees. To be eligible, everyone must meet the following criteria:

  • Have reached the statutory minimum school leaving age 
  • Be employed and not self employed
  • Left full-time education
